| Irfanview
This is a terrific freeware gfx viewer.
No frills but lots of function. I have used it for all the images
on my eBay listings and many of the ones on this site. Because it
is so small, it requires a fraction of the memory (and time to load!) of
some of the more sophisticated programs like Photoshop. Basically,
you're using the right tool for the job with this little program.
Some of the important features include:
-
Keyboard short-cuts. This is
great when you want to quickly edit a series of pictures. For
example, when I take photos for my eBay sales, I can rapidly crop and re-save
the pictures with just a few keystrokes.
-
Batch conversions. When I have
a series of pictures that I need to resize or retouch in a hurry, this
is the way to do it. For example...
-
If I find that a set of images are too dark,
I can set the parameters to brighten and increase the contrast on a batch
of files and run them all through all at once (the originals are not overwritten,
btw).
-
You can also apply the batch conversion to
resizing images or resampling them to decrease the file sizes. The
latter is especially great on web pages where you want to optimize the
download time.
