2D Motion Problem Set
A person walks 25° north of east for 3.10 km.  How far would another person have to walk due north and due east to arrive at the same location?

The fastest recorded pitch in Major League Baseball was thrown by Nolan Ryan in 1974.  If this pitch was thrown horizontally, the fall would fall 0.809 m (2.65 ft) by the time it reached home plate 18.3 m (60 ft) away.  How fast was this pitch?

A shell is fired from the ground with an initial speed of 1.70 x 103 m/s (approx. five times the speed of sound) at an initial angle of 55.0° to the horizontal.  Neglecting air resistance, find:
a) The amount of time the shell is in motion.
b) The shell’s horizontal range.

A spy in a speed boat is being chased down a river by government officials in a faster craft.  Just as the officials’ boat pulls up next to the spy’s boat, both boats reach the edge of a 5.0 m waterfall.  If the spy’s speed is 15 m/s and the officials’ speed is 26 m/s, how far apart will the two vessels be when they reach the bottom of the waterfall?
