My MP3 collections
Below are links to lists of my music collections.
These are according to the folders I have them organized into, usually
by genre. Some tracks are duplicated across several directories.
For example, I have a few REM tracks in my own stuff, but then so does
Dani.
-
Rock/Pop -
Generic pop/rock. Top 40 and classic rock. Meat and potatoes.
-
Dani's mp3s -
Some of these are duplicated in other directories. That's true elsewhere
besides.
-
Jazz -
Mostly Django Reinhardt. In fact, it includes *everything* by Django
Reinhardt, and pretty much everything else is gypsy jazz or close to it.
-
Electronica -
Mixes, mostly instrumental. Some soundtracks as well.
-
Orchestral -
Some classical, but mostly soundtracks that were performed primarily by
an orchestra.
-
Rockabilly
- Everything by the greats:
Brian Setzer/Stray Cats, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, plus a smattering
of other noteables.
-
Guitar backing tracks
- For musicians only.
Stuff to play along with. If it says "backing track," there's no
lead/main guitar part(s) and (with only a few noted exceptions) no vocals.
There's some karaoke mixed in here as well since sometimes I'll play melody
lines for practice.
-
Halloween music
- The beginnings of an attempt
at a soundtrack for the holiday.
-
Christmas music
- The beginnings of an attempt
at a soundtrack for the second best holiday.
-
Pink Floyd obscurities
- Tracks one of the members
(usually Dave) guested on. I collected these for a friend, but so
I kept copies of the whole lot since there are some interesting items mixed
in.
-
Rocky Horror -
RHPS-related tracks and a few other rock musicals along similar lines.
Lots of mixes, obscure novelty songs by cast members, etc.
If you want to
share your own music...
Renamer
- I generated the above lists
with a program called Oscar's Renamer which allows you to view directory
(folder) listings as text files, meaning I could copy and paste the entire
listing elsewhere (see above). The program is so-named because it
allows you to edit the entire file names as easily as navigating a document.
I finally cleaned up a decade's worth of inconsistent file-naming conventions
in about an hour. Without this program, it would have taken days
to do and probably another decade for me to have gotten around to.
