Leonard Cohen Naked!
I always wonder what's up when artists return
to a common theme. For example, Leonard Cohen references nudity in
an inordinate number of songs. There are always exposed body parts,
and it isn't like he's writing romantic or even erotic material in most
cases, so it's kind of weird.
For those who don't believe
this assertion that Leonard Cohen has a fixation with nudity, check out
these excerpts from his lyrics. (And I almost certainly missed a
few. If so, email me.)
From "Everybody
Knows..."
Everybody knows that the naked
man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
and
But there were so many people
you just had to meet
Without your clothes
From "You Know
Who I Am"
Sometimes I need you naked,
From "Light
As The Breeze"
She stands before you naked
and
and she's naked
but that's just a tease.
From "Last Year's
Man"
Great Babylon was naked, oh she
stood there trembling for me,
From "Please
Don't Pass Me By (A Disgrace)"
Hey, won't you be naked for me?
From "Tonight
Will Be Fine"
Oh sometimes I see her undressing
for me,
she's the soft naked lady love meant her
to be
From "Take This
Longing"
I love to see you naked over there
especially From "the back.
From "Leaving
Green Sleeves"
Then I saw you naked in the early
dawn,
From "Paper
Thin Hotel"
You are The Naked Angel In My
Heart
You are The Woman With Her Legs Apart
From "Memories"
I said "won't you let me see
Your naked body?"
and
She said "no you cannot see
My naked body"
and
I said all my faith to see
Her naked body
From "Humbled
in Love"
You will never see a man this
naked
From "I Came
So Far For Beauty"
Her nakedness unmanned
From "Dance
Me to the End of Love"
Touch me with your naked hand
or touch me with your glove
From "Ain't
No Cure For Love"
I need to see you naked
From "Waiting
For The Miracle"
Most of you was naked
From "Be For
Real"
I don't give a damn about the
truth, Baby
Except for the naked truth. Oh yeah
From "Closing
Time"
And the moon is swimming naked
From "The Future"
You'll see a woman
hanging upside down
her features covered by her fallen gown
From "One Of
Us Cannot Be Wrong"
And then I confess that I tortured
the dress
that you wore for the world to look through.
and
I suppose that he froze when the
wind took your clothes
and I guess he just never got warm.
From "Master
Song"
You met him at some temple, where
they take your clothes at the door.
