Alexplorer Goes Time Traveling...

If you're just joining this series already in progress, then it means you don't have a time machine, so here's the short version: Every Tuesday (your present), I come back from my adventures time-traveling around MySpace and fill you in on what happened to people from my past as they keep slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future.

Ah, here's one now...

I hung out with Brent (not his real name) for a while in high school, though I really can't place when exactly.  He was with a crowd who was into role playing games years after the D&D fad had ebbed and left anyone still playing it stranded on the rocks of geekdom.  Admittedly, I was a big enough geek that I used to like RPGs leading up to this, so I still kept up with what new games were coming out, and I used to sit in with these guys though we goofed around too much to ever seriously play any games.  Yes, I know that's an oxymoron; most of us were in high school.  Brent was rather quiet and used to listen to the conversation far more than he contributed to it, mostly filling his time drawing pretty decent sketches of fantasy characters.

Brent has become a fantasy character.  Most of the pictures on his MySpace pages are of his artwork or of him in what I would like to believe are Halloween costumes (though the photo captions do not always indicate this explicitly, so I am left assuming they are merely shots from colorful evenings on the town).  No, he doesn't list his orientation, preferring instead to give a collage of band names in his musical preferences section that leaves absolutely no one who needs to know guessing.

Hypothetical letter I'll probably never send to him:

Dude, what the fuck was in the water?  I feel that something is wrong with me that I graduated from the same school as you and Shane and Henry and Mindy and Roger and... well, everyone else, and I'm still straight.  Where did I go wrong?!
