The Munster Theme lyrics

Jack Marshall's theme for this series has been covered numerous times (for example, The Comateens did a great New Wave version).  But did you know there were lyrics to the music?  Two different sets of them, in fact.

The first version of the theme never appeared on the show, but it was included on an album called At Home With The Munsters (1964).  The track was listed as "At The Munsters (Theme Song With Words)."  The lyrics were credited to Bob Mosher.  I'm not sure if they were composed specifically for this album or for the show originally.  The song is such by children, which makes it creepy in ways possibly never intended.  The rest of the album (though not the other Munsters album The Munsters L.P.) features the cast performing sketches and songs.  The theme song serves as an introduction to this concept album in which a neighborhood kid is taken on a tour of the home and meets the members of the family who live there.  Here are the lyrics:

At The Munsters (Theme Song With Words)

When you are walking down the street at night
And behind you there's no one in view.
But you hear mysterious feet at night,
Then the Munsters are following you.

If you should meet this strange family
Just forget what some people have said,
The Munsters may shake your hand clammily
But they're not necessarily dead.

Behind their house you mustn't be afraid
To see a figure digging with a spade.
Perhaps someone didn't quite make the grade
With the Munsters, with the Munsters.

If when you're sleeping you dream a lot,
Ghoulish nightmares parade through your head,
And then you wake up and scream a lot,
Oh the Munsters are under your bed.

At midnight if creatures should prowl about,
And if vampires and vultures swoop down.
And werewolves and fiends shriek and howl about,
Oh the Munsters are out on the town.

One night I dared peak through their window screen,
My hair turned white at such a crazy scene.
Because every evening its Halloween
At the Munsters, at the Munsters.

I've read that What ever happened to Eddie? was an attempt by Butch Patrick to get some cash before retiring from show biz.  He formed a New Wave group called Eddie and the Monsters and released the song as a single (backed with a track called "Little Monsters") in 1983.  I think it's a great novelty hit, and it makes my party playlist ever year.

Whatever Happened To Eddie?

What ever happened to Eddie?
I'm the kid from Mockingbird Lane.
What ever happened to Eddie?
Did I freak or go insane?

You might wonder why I have a dragon for a pet;
Well, he's just there to keep me company on the set.
What ever happened to Eddie?
I'm the kid with the mixed up brain.

What ever happened to Eddie?
Yes, I'm the kid with the pointed ears.
What ever happened to Eddie?
After all these many years.

If you dare peek through my shaded window screen,
You'd turn so white at seeing so much green.
What ever happened to Eddie?
I'm the kid from Mockingbird lane!

[Sax solo; modified chord progression.]

What ever happened to Eddie?
I got up and split from school.
What ever happened to Eddie?
But I always kept my cool.

I spend my nights just howling at the moon
Or hanging out in a creepy black lagoon.

What ever happened to Eddie?
