Shock Theater movies

Adapted from Wikipedia: Shock Theater (marketed as Shock!) was a package of 52 classic horror films from Universal Studios released for television showings in 1957. A second package, Son of Shock, was released in 1958, with 20 horror films from both Universal and Columbia.  These were featured around the country with horror hosts such as Zacherley (in Philly) among others, establishing a genre that began with Vampira.

My own note: The significance of the airing of these movies cannot be over-stated with respect to horror cinema.  These films were made conveniently available to kids who missed them when they premiered years earlier on the silver screen.  Additional, the presence of horror hosts undoubtedly gave them an additional impact on their young audience.  This inspired the publication of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, the line of Aurora monster models, and a plethora of other monster merchandise.  That era of re-visiting future classics inspired the next several generations of artists, particularly filmmakers, but also guys like Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet who is a well-known monster enthusiast/collector (his band also draws musical inspiration from horror films.  Some examples here).  In short, the release of these films is heavily responsible for an inestimable load of what followed, culturally.
